Business commits to act for refugees

Hanken & SSE Executive Education at the Business Refugee Action Network CEO roundtable during UN General Assembly calling organisations and societies to act

Business has a key role to play in contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for refugees. Businesses can contribute to the economic inclusion of refugees by providing employment and training opportunities.

Hanken & SSE Executive Education, along with 16 companies and organisations, have recognised the key role businesses play in contributing to the achievement of the SDGs for refugees - committing to concrete measures such as hiring refugees; integrating refugees into core business activities; developing vital goods and services; providing investment and funding for humanitarian response and livelihoods; and building strong, collaborative partnerships to benefit refugees and their communities. These 17 companies also call on governments to take urgent action to ensure inclusion of refugees and to accelerate progress.

The organisations committing to act are Ben & Jerry's, Citi, Cotopaxi, Hanken & SSE Executive Education, IKEA Foundation, International Rescue Committee, Monese, Monzo, Microsoft, Novartis, Oliver Wyman, Pearson, Tent Partnership for Refugees, The B Team, Uncommon Goods, Unilever and Virgin.

Since 2016, Hanken & SSE Executive Education has run an integration program, called Business Lead, which contributes to economic and social inclusion of refugees by providing training, as well as employment through its partner companies. 235 academically educated asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants have been matched with 150 companies through the Integration Program Business Lead.
